Narcissus ‘Florilegium’ 8Y-Y, 2026

The simple florets of pale yellow are reminiscent of water colors found in early 1800s florilegiums. Of thinner substance, the florets do not fare well in heat waves, but are quite happy in cooler temperatures. As a high to late winter season bloomer (first week of January), it has good frost resistance. The florets are a smidge rounder and a hair larger than ‘Hattie’s Delight’, but the plant is of a quite different growth habit. Short and stout, the wide leaves are a lovely grayish blue-green, quite different from the bright green of ‘Hattie’s Delight’ and dark yellow-green of ‘Perkins Lemon Cordial’. It has yet to set seed but it does produce a few fertile pollen grains. Named in honor of the Mrs. Paul (“Bunny”) Mellon rare florilegia collection in the care of the Oak Spring Garden Foundation. Collected from an old garden site in the Natchez, Mississippi area.

NOTE: The Sara Van Beck tazetta and paperwhite daffodils are generally not hardy in cold climates with freezing winters. In frost-free climates (zones 8-11) these bulbs may be safely planted outdoors in autumn for late winter flowers.
