Narcissus ‘Bas-relief’ 8W-W, 2026

A tall plant with tall, stout stems of remarkable uniformity in height. Though the florets are of average size, they too are quite uniform in their sculptural appearance, reminiscent of a Greek frieze. About the third variety to bloom in the succession of white tazettas, it opens just after ‘Artist’s Palette’ and “Giclee.” And as with these other two tall, sturdy stemmed plants, it was likely created for the cut flower market. The corona opens a light citron, and the color holds longer in cooler weather than with the other white varieties. Collected from an old garden site near Natchez, Mississippi, whose owners had a steadfast penchant planting white tazettas along the borders of the garden beds. Very lightly fragrant but popular with the pollinators. Likely lurking fertility.

NOTE: The Sara Van Beck tazetta and paperwhite daffodils are generally not hardy in cold climates with freezing winters. In frost-free climates (zones 8-11) these bulbs may be safely planted outdoors in autumn for late winter flowers.
