Named for Mrs. Hattie Sledge, who planted this cute little duffer in her Monticello, Florida, bulb garden around 1907. An older hybrid both in its basic floret form and its short, grassy growth habit, likely it was a pass-along plant for Hattie rather than an early 1900s catalog purchase (it doesn’t look like anything sold in that time period). The charm of its small florets lies in its unique slightly chartreuse greenish yellow color that pales to near-white particularly in the heat. Its narrow foliage is similarly a distinctive yellow green, which augments the floret color. With shade the stems will notably lengthen, while in full sun the plant stays rather short. With maturity the bulbs will produce secondary stems. Registered in 2024.

NOTE: The Sara Van Beck tazetta and paperwhite daffodils are generally not hardy in cold climates with freezing winters. In frost-free climates (zones 8-11) these bulbs may be safely planted outdoors in autumn for late winter flowers.
